My entry for the SSC10 contest. Took me quite a few attempts and several refinements to get everything right; the Rainmeter config was especially rough around the edges and had lot of work done on it.
If you are going to feature Japanese anime and manga in your desktop screenshot, you might as well feature the greatest work from the greatest (and the original) anime manga artist. Took me quite a while to find the source picture for the wallpaper; though I have a copy of the manga itself from where the picture originated, I have no scanner here (and even if I did, I was not willing to risk damage to it), so I had to look everywhere on the internet for scans before I finally found one.

As I don’t theme Windows I can’t comment on the rest of your setup (though I like the bottom-left icons), but I can tell you with a high degree of confidence that everyone will want you to get ride of that entire sidebar.

I just realised an oversight in the sidebar’s calendar… Oh well, I guess it’s too late to fix that.
@Chimpy: that sidebar is there more or less for practical purposes, since I want to have my Google Calendar viewable from my desktop. The other elements, admittedly, were my attempt to try and spruce it up, but they also have some practicality – the hard drive monitoring config monitors free space on both the primary partition on my main hard drive, as well as my backup hard drive, which runs out of space rather often, for example.

this is pretty quiet and classy. sidebars like that are more often than not obnoxious, but you pulled it off well. i like the dock(?) background especially, at the lower left. opera’s banging.

Not digging the sidebar too much, but that’s more of a personal thing. Really digging the icons (big fan of Stefan Kanchev). The wall could stand a change, but like akka said, the dock and opera are pretty fly.

Props for your efforts to tie everything together and for the icon replacements. The black icons could have been a tad lighter perhaps.

Thorough job all around. I think the wall is a little lacking (though pretty cool considering its origin), but the theme matches well and all details are customized. I would like to see you take the elements you used and make them your own a bit. Nice job and entry overall.

Nice setup – I think the main thing that bugs me is how the stark blackness of the icons versus the softer gray tones of the rest of the setup.
Otherwise, I think this works pretty well (the sidebar is really neat) and it’s also nice to see someone using opera :D
